Go Pink Day Story – The Rose

October 6th, 2018

One of our Core Values at Meador Staffing is Having a heart for the community and its people. This is something that is seen every day internally in how our employees treat each other, as well as when we are working to engage and help our own communities. This is a part of who we are and have been for 50 years.

Go pink day Meador Staffing breast cancer awareness

We wanted to share two touching stories from our team on GO PINK DAY to raise awareness for those who are furthering the efforts to find a cure for breast cancer and those who are affected by breast cancer and these organizations. The first is about  The Rose, a non-profit breast cancer organization right here in Houston.

From Darla Haygood, our VP of Community Relations: The Rose

“I met Ms. Gibbons that started the Rose through Ben’s friend John Moon at Rotary years ago. She is quite an impressive lady & if you haven’t read her book you need to.

I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Dixie Mellilo years ago which is the doctor that supports & works with Ms. Gibbons at the Rose. She has treated my good friend Nell for years & is a huge animal lover supporting our six women group that formed SECHAA to bring SNAP – Spay & Neuter Assistance Program to Pasadena. They are located on the North side of Pasadena on 225.

My grandmother & my mother were both breast cancer survivors so mammograms have been part of my life for years. Last year I had a scare & Dr. Dixie was by my side at the Rose performing all types of mammograms & leading me in the right direction. The good news is that all is well.

However, in 2015 my daughter had a scare & once again we found ourselves in Dr. Dixie’s office. That is when she sat me down & discussed the importance of diet. With her guidance that started a lifestyle change & the loss of over 40 pounds. I credit her for helping me find my health again & also for helping so many in need.

The Rose takes insurance & every year that I go for my mammogram, I always make a donation because every $25 donated will give someone without insurance a mammogram.

I have a deep respect & love for The Rose & those that work behind the scenes to help others.”
